Meegan Hertensteiner

Meegan has been involved in the arts ever since she was a little tyke. In her early years she studied Ballet, theatre, and voice at the Center for Theatre Arts in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1990 she moved to CT and studied intensely with Nutmeg Ballet. In high school Meegan took time away from her dance training and immersed herself in numerous and various activities. When her family moved to Oklahoma after she graduated, Meegan decided to venture to the Midwest where she entered University of Oklahoma as a theatre major. It was in college that Meegan started dancing again and switched to a ballet major her second year. It was at OU where Meegan was first educated about modern dance and once again switched majors. While at OU she performed in both the Ballet and Modern companies and had the opportunity to perform in many festivals both nationally and internationally. She was awarded a partial scholarship to attend American Dance Festival in 2003 and a full scholarship in 2005. In 2006, a year after receiving her BFA, Meegan was hired by Ballet New England in Portsmouth, NH as a company member, choreographer, and teacher. In fall of 2007 Meegan relocated to San Francisco. Upon her arrival Meegan started dancing with SoulForce Dance Company under the direction of Micaya. Not long after dancing with Micaya, Meegan started working as an office and staff assistant for Micaya and San Francisco Hip Hop DanceFest. In 2008 she began working with Philein Wang/Zi Ru Tiger Productions as a full company member and soloist. It was around that time that Meegan started to collaborate with former OU classmate Derek Harris and fellow Philein Wang dancer, Brendan Behan to create Human Creature Dance Theatre. At the current time Meegan is engulfing herself in the creative process in her endeavors with Human Creature, as well as dancing with her Hip-Hop family, SoulForce.
